next steps.

I found this project made with Processing and Arduino and called IMPRESS.
The developments describe it like a surface capable of adding a “tactile experience to the touch screen”. The material which they work is foam, some pressure’s sensors are placed between pieces of foam on the surface.

my impression:
The difference with my project is this is not a projection in real time, also I think they give it 4 applications to the screen, when the true is that one or two are real, the other ones work better if you use a regular screen. It’s very interesting the application to sculpt in 3D, but maybe would be more if you could sculpt the material also, like clay.
I see more potential when you distort the image in real time responding to the curiosity of a game.

Now, having some references, the next steps are:

1. Solving the Processing part:
I have been trying to make a code from images, but I think that is not the right way. I found a code which distort a video, and I think I’m going to use it for the first attempts.

2. Solving the Arduino part:
I think the better way is work with a tracking camera, but I should start with pressure sensors and then try with another kind of sensor, because the goal is to make a grid and map the positions of the points of it and translate those points in a distortion of the image projected. So, now I’m working in a prototype which, in a certain way, reproduce the surface of the video above, to find what kind of problems i could have when I’ll be doing my own version, and figure out potential solutions.

3. Building:
I have to decide what material can be better for my idea, for now I think fabric is a good option, but I have to design how it’s going to be assemble, where the projector is going to be located and how. If I use a tracking camera, where it’s going to be located also.
